International Projects

Co-founder of the association Partenaires Santé Chirurgie (PSC), LAB8 has been leading since 2022 a humanitarian mission aimed at creating a functional pathology laboratory in Casamance, in the south of Senegal, where no such facility previously existed.

In the absence of a local laboratory, patients operated on in Casamance had to have their samples sent to Dakar, a process that already took several days. The tissue analysis, the writing of the reports, and their return to the attending physicians could thus take several weeks, or even months. This delay jeopardised the chances of effective treatment for many patients.

Thanks to the dedication of doctors from Ziguinchor and Geneva, as well as donations of advanced equipment and the training of local staff, PSC and LAB8 SA have enabled the opening of an operational pathology laboratory in Ziguinchor, within the Hôpital de la Paix.

Completed stages of the project:

  • Mission from 29.10 – 06.10 2022: Initial contact with Dr F. Senghor, discussion of the project’s feasibility. Needs assessment. Definition of objectives.
  • March 2023: Shipment of pathology equipment.
  • April 2023 mission: Project finalisation.
  • 2023 – 2024: Sourcing and purchasing laboratory equipment suitable for climatic conditions, minimal maintenance, and financial constraints. Finding a suitable carrier and organising transport.
  • August 2024: Receipt of the equipment at the Hôpital de la Paix in Ziguinchor by the anapath team.
  • August – October 2024: Installation of the laboratory by the anapath team and start of testing.
