Prolaris®

LAB8 is the first and only laboratory in French-speaking Switzerland to perform the Prolaris® Test, and has been doing so since 2024.

The Prolaris® test represents a real asset for a pathology laboratory, as it goes beyond the traditional diagnosis. By assessing the potential aggressiveness of prostate carcinoma, this genomic test helps estimate the risk of disease progression. This valuable information helps physicians to more precisely tailor therapeutic strategies in certain cases, and to avoid invasive treatments when they are not necessary.

Several commercially available tests can detect the expression levels of cell cycle regulatory genes in prostate cancer tissues. Most of these tests are not available in Switzerland, unlike the Prolaris® test. This test has been integrated into and recommended by the NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network) guidelines, particularly for risk stratification in men newly diagnosed with low-risk or favorable intermediate-risk prostate carcinoma.

In Switzerland, it has been accepted as a prognostic test and is reimbursed by the basic health insurance LaMal.

A reliable, fast, and high-quality molecular evaluation:

  • Prolaris® uses quantitative PCR (qPCR) to measure mRNA expression levels of cell cycle-related genes and housekeeping genes.
  • It provides an independent molecular assessment of the risk of disease progression.
  • The Prolaris® report classifies tumors as: less aggressive than average, moderately aggressive, or more aggressive than average. It provides an estimate of the 10-year prostate cancer-specific mortality risk.
